- Check out VisitBooneNC for a peek at the area's sights and attractions.
- The Summer Times features (almost) everything you need to know about what's going on in the High Country. Local attractions, history, and more are described in this local publication. Copies of the 2016 Summer Times will be available when you arrive on campus.
- Each year An Appalachian Summer Festival brings nationally--and internationally--known entertainers to AppState. Several films and performing arts events are scheduled during Kellogg -- and if you're enrolled for graduate credit at Kellogg, you can purchase tickets at the student price!
- The Jones House, Boone's Cultural and Community Center hosts Concerts on the Lawn every Friday at 5pm as well as many other interesting events.
- AppState's own Dr. Ray Russell keeps an eye on the Boone Weather for us. For the latest forecast, plus a different local "photo of the day" with unique views of area sights and features, visit his site!
- Driving to Boone? You'll want to check out the maps (campus maps, driving maps) included on Appalachian's Web pages.
- Walkers and runners will want a copy of AppState Health Promotions' MAP with routes ranting from .23 miles to 3.2 miles on campus and in town. (We'll have some copies available in the residence hall, too.)
- The Turchin Center for the Visual Arts showcases fine arts and crafts from a broad range of artists, and even hosts a Saturday morning yoga workshop.
- Thirsty? Boone is home to three microbreweries: Appalachian Mountain Brewery, Booneshine Brewing Company, and Lost Province Brewing Co.
- There are several wineries close by, too. Check out the High Country Wine Trail (with a designated driver, of course!)
- The Watauga Farmer's Market is a fun place to spend your Saturday morning. Sample local produce, baked goods, and crafts while enjoying a cup of locally roasted Bald Guy Brew coffee. Live music is featured weekly, too.
- NEW: A link has been added to the right for Local Church Information. The Kellogg Schedule will permit you to attend Sunday services if you like, and several places of worship are an easy walk from campus. Many others offer transportation, and there are likely colleagues willing to carpool, too.
I hope you find the information provided in this post helpful as you prepare for your stay at Kellogg.
